A Living Piece of the Wild West
Nestled within the rolling foothills of the 5,000-acre Scott Ranch near Longview, Alberta, the Old Town is a meticulously crafted frontier movie set that transports visitors and film crews straight into the 1880s American West.

Built by John Scott in the 1990s and expanded over decades, this authentic Western town features a main street lined with period-accurate façades: a saloon with swinging doors, a sheriff’s office, a general store, a livery stable, a bank, and a blacksmith shop
The set was originally developed for the 2000 film Monty Walsh (starring Tom Selleck) and has since starred in over 50 productions, including Heartland, Hell on Wheels, and Fargo. What sets it apart is its working functionality—the buildings have functional interiors, the street is wide enough for stagecoach chases, and the surrounding landscape includes open plains, riverbanks, and forested ridges, all within camera range
365 Days A Year Set
Unlike studio backlots, the Old Town is part of a living, breathing cattle ranch, meaning real longhorns, bison, and horses roam nearby, adding unparalleled realism.
Heartland, Hell on Wheels, and Fargo all have Shot Here
Maintained year-round by John Scott Productions, it remains one of Western Canada’s most versatile and sought-after film locations.
